`Zambia - Kenya`

ICA Zambia conducts various rural development projects such as sustainable agriculture development and income generation. Two agriculturist were sent as trainees to Kenya to learn integrated rural development approaches so that they can implement projects more effectively.

Project Overview
A Village in Machakos District
1. Scenery of a farmer village in Machakos in Kenya. Social Forestry Extension Model Development Project (SOFEM) is carried out near this village by JICA , Kenya Forestry Research Institute and Ministry of Forest of Kenya.
2. A kitchen of a farmers house in Machakos. The pot on the right side is Enzaro jiko, which can purify water.
ICA Machakos
3. Briefing at the ICA Machacos Office concerning activities of the office for two Zambian trainees.

Reserach Center
6. Katsumani Agricultural Research Center in Machakos. The center conducts agricultural research to develop agriculture in dry areas.

Jesus Worship Center
11. Visting The Jesus Workshop Centre which is supported by Daucus Aid International.

SOFEM
16. The front entrance of the Kitui Center of Kenya Forestry Research Center. The center is carrying out SOFEM, cooperating with JICA and Ministry of Forests of Kenya .

20. A machine for measuring erosion of the trees. The machine was installed with the support of JICA.
21. Electricity is transfered from this box to operate the machine. The center established a 24 hour watchguard system to avoid the machine from being stolen.

30. Pine trees were also planted at the pilot farm.
31. Farmers living closeby were visiting the center at Tiba.
ICA Mariakani
32. Visiting ICA Mariyakani office near Mombasa.
33. Ms.Beatrice Imali, the program manager of ICA Mariakani, is explaining about ICA MariakaniÕs activities.
34. The trainees are listening to the explanation about the Agriculture and Income Generation Project implemented by ICA Machacos at Molongoni village.
35. Trainees visited Morongoni village where ICA Mariyakani is backing up health care activities for women. It takes about 2 hours from ICA office to the village by car.
36. Doctors and nurses visited Morongoni village arranged by ICA Mariakani. In the examinations, physical checkups for women were provoded, and many women participated to be examined.
37. A study tour group of ICA Japan visited the village from Japan on the same day. A cultural exchange party was held between villagers and tour participants.
