2. Yesera Village where the project was carried out is located in the Asis valley. Spring water from an underground 'river' is coming out around the green area. Elsewhere is rough land with only earth and rocks where there is no water. |

3. The valley with a windmill installed. It is difficult to secure water for agriculture and drinking in this dry place where the water supply is inadequate. The windmill which uses the natural energy is effective. In order to enable the long term agricultural plan, the villagers will need to do the maintenance. |

4. Children in Yesera village. Since there is only an elementary school in the village, they have to leave the village after their graduation to attend middle and high school. |
Repairs of the Multiblade Windmill in Yesera Village for the West Side WellIn the ICA's project of 1996, the tower height was increased to catch sufficient wind. This time, overhaul was conducted to the old windmill which was not functioning because of the breakage of parts. At the same time, the methods of repairing were taught to the villagers. In the process of making plans, an exchange of the ideas was done with the university group in Lima who specialize in supporting rural development. |

5. The shaft and the crank for pumping were missing. This time, the sizes of these parts were increased to strengthen them. |

6. All the parts were dismantled in order to do the overhaul, and the rotor was also dismounted from the tower. Although most of the work in the village was done by hand and often dangerous, it was done with the assistance of villagers. |

7. The pump was taken out from the well to change the pipe. Taking the high efficiency of this windmill into consideration, the pipe to pump water up from the well was changed to a bigger one. |

8. Piston pump. Its structure is simple, and it has good strength and durability. Four anchors were used to fasten the pump to the wall. This pump is used in wells in Japan too, and also seen all over the world. |

9. Overhaul. The work was done in the backyard of the steel works in Mala which is close to the project place. The ICA staff did all the work possible to save the budget and the time. |

10. The repair of the rotor. The paint and rust were scoured off and repainted first with anti-rust paint and then with color paint for all the parts. This day, people from a Japanese radio station visited the village to report, and also helped painting. |

11. Welding. Owing to the difficulty to transport the tower, a welding machine was brought into the village and repairs were done. Since the tower was heavy and needed to be removed from narrow foothold place, the work was done with the assistance of many villagers. |

12. The windmill after being repaired. Changes of the sizes of parts was done to increase the strength. The wind velocity here is an average of 6m/s. The efficiency of this windmill is very good because sufficient and stable wind blows everyday. |
Construction of the New Vertical Axis Sail-wing Windmill in Yesera village for the East Side WellThe vertical axis sail-wing windmill which was installed by the ICA project last year, was destroyed because of the phenomenon of El Nino. All the parts of the windmill including the tower, gear and sail had fallen into the well by the flood of rocks and mud. Most of the parts were past retrieval except one. Even the rotor was built newly even though the rotor was taken out from the well by the villagers. |

13. The rotor which was taken out by the villagers. The frame was bent and most of the parts were past retrieval. |

14. The wall of the well which had crumbled. The well has sufficient quantity of water. The diameter of the well is 8m. From the surface of the water to the surface of the ground is 5m. The depth under water is 3.5m. |
![]() |
15. Modifying the gear. This is the gear to change the direction of the rotary motion from the horizontal motion to the vertical motion which is needed for the pumping. The diferential gear of the scrapped vehicle was used to economize the cost. |
![]() |
16. The installation of the tower. The tower was raised up with ropes and the cooperation of all. It was done with caution because of heaviness of the upper part of the windmill. |
![]() |
17. The vertical axis sail-wing windmill after being put together. This windmill is appropriate in a windy valley also since the perfomance does not depend on the wind blowing direction. Bolts were used in many connections so that the villagers can do the maintenance easily. |

18. After the repair of the wall of the well. The villagers built the vertical wall deftly by piling up the rocks and putting cement between rocks. |
![]() |
19. The pump after being installed. The anchors were fastened far into the wall. Taking the maintenance into consideration, the pump was bolted. |

20. The windmill after being installed. The unusual shaped tower was invented, because the well was too big to install the normal shaped tower above the water. The center of the windmill is 5m above the ground. |

21. The pumped up water. This windmill pumps up about 0.5P of water per second. |

22. Tower construction. The materials were bought in Lima, and the construction was done at the car repair garage in the last small town before the project place. |
![]() |
23. The frame which was ordered from the university for manufacturing. For easy transportation, it can be separated into two parts. This place specializes in windmill construction, so their technique is high. |
![]() |
24. Transportation. The windmill tower was constructed separately. It was put together and installed in the village. |
![]() |
25. Painting. After the tower was brought to the village, the villagers are assisting. Many beams were used in order to increase the strength of the tower. |
![]() |
26. Welding in the village. The welding machine with engine was used in the village where there is no electricity. |
![]() |
27. Installation of the rotor. The rotor was lifted up by people to the top of the tower which is 6.3m high. |
![]() |
28. The windmill after completion. This windmill has high efficiency, and pumps up 1P of water per second. |
![]() |
29. After two new windmills installed. This waste land behind the two windmills will turn into farmland. |
Installation of the Power Generating Windmill in el Arca de Noe VillageAlthough electricity goes through nearby Arca village, the electricty does not come into this village. In this project, one windmill system was purchased from a manufacture in Lima and installed for the purpose of electricity generation as well as to be a demonstration model. |

30. The village where the power generating windmill project was carried out. This place hasa good amount of water and green area. Wine making is seen in this place. |
![]() |
31. Teaching a villager how to measure the velocity of the wind. A villager was requested to measure it for one month, and he collected the data. From this data, the place to install the windmill was decided. |

32. The blade of windmill which generates electricity . It can withstand strong wind. |
![]() |
33. Working to set up a 6 meter pole. It was fixed with concrete and wire. |
|
34. Utilizing electricity which is being generated. With this electricity, work can be done efficiently. |
![]() |
35. The young people trying to cultivate the unused land and start their own farm. However, the water problem accompanies in this case also. They showed great zeal in telling their plan to cultivate this land which was covered with many rocks and stones. |
![]() |
36. The small animal project which was done by ICA in the past. Both rabbits and guinea pigs are for eating, and an important source for the village's income and also for protein for health. |
![]() |
37. Rabbits and guinea pigs have a fast growing cycle. It is relatively easy to begin a business, and has brought stable income to the village. |
![]() |
38. This farm is located in a suburb of LIma. The windmill is used efficiently. The tank is located in the higher place and the water reaches to the plants through the canal. An ideal usage of the windmill. Avocado is made. |
![]() |
39. The ruin of Inca. Although researchers from university in Lima come sometimes, it remains without administration. |
![]() |
40. The fishing port of Lunahuana. Catching sharks in nets is practiced. Plenty of fish are in the water off the shores of Peru, and used for animal feed as well as cooking. |
