ICA JAPAN started a new project in Agboville, Cote d'Ivoire

Duration: 2015 -

Funder: Ministry of Foreign Affairs

By January 2017, in cooperation with ICA Cote d'Ivoire and the communities, thirteen chicken houses have been built and an incubator has been provided. Vegetable gardens are being grown and sold at the markets, and agroforestry fields were started in all 11 villages. The first harvested vegetables have been successful, as well as the chicken raising. We are now raising broiler chickens and introducing a method to incubate eggs rather than buying baby chickens from outside of the town. We are also focusing our efforts on supporting unemployed youth to become self-sustainable. Thus, local ICA staff is working very hard, without their contribution it would not have been possible to work with the villagers. We are proud of the results of this team working. Also, working together is helping the community feeling. To establish a participative community, ICA also holds trainings in leadership and community development, which many villagers show an eagerness to learn. Especially women seem highly interested and motivated to learn.

ICA’s main goal is to help communities to reach a long term balance and sustainable way of life, therefore, in this project area, we are mostly focus on helping people to decrease unemployment rate through the creation of new industries. In order to reach this goal, we will proceed with our community development and leadership trainings in 5 villages.

To enhance villagers skills and sustain their ability, Japanese experts are holding different kind of workshops in chicken raising, agroforestry, soil analysis and vegetable planting. These kind of activities are done in order to teach villagers new skills and help them establish a sustainable way of farming. Our goal for the future is to let them proceed self reliant but for now villagers said they still need support for their activities, especially marketing trainings. Also, human development and women empowerment need to be improved.

(Update) ICAJ's co-director visits Côte d’Ivoire
